Tool Steel A11 is an air hardeing high Vanadium tool steel that also has high carbon.  It has very high wear-resistance and relatively high impact toughness.  These characteristics provide for better wear-resistance than high chromium steels like D2.  Mainly used for hand tools and machine dies, A11 has an advantage over some other tool steels because it is easier to machine and grind.
