260 Brass Product Guide
Applications | Specifications | Mechanical and Chemical Data | Tolerances
260 Brass
Overview
260 Brass (Cartridge Brass) is the most ductile of the yellow brasses. It offers excellent cold forming, good strength, and corrosion resistance. It is softer than machining brasses and is not ideal for heavy cutting operations but is easily deep drawn. Avoid exposure to ammonia or strong acids. Common uses include architectural trim, electrical connectors, fasteners, and ammunition casings.
Common Trade Names
- UNS C26000
- CDA 260

| Zinc (Zn) | ~35% |
| Lead (Pb) | ≤ 0.05% |
How to Choose
- C260: Best formability (deep drawing, bending, architectural shapes)
- C272: Balanced strength + formability (general hardware, plumbing)
- C330: Best machinability + flare-forming (HVAC, refrigeration, instrumentation tubing)
Tolerances depend on ASTM product form (e.g., B135 tube). Typical tube wall tolerance is ±10% unless otherwise specified.
